How Do I Test My Internet Speed?
Speed test results vary a lot depending on where and how you run them. Follow the steps below to measure what your line really delivers.
1. Use a Wired Connection
Measurements over Wi-Fi come out low because of walls, distance and interference from neighbouring networks. If possible, connect your computer to the modem with an Ethernet cable.
2. Take Other Devices Off the Network
Make sure no other device on the network is downloading, backing up or streaming video during the test. They share the bandwidth.
3. Close Background Applications
Cloud backup, game updaters and torrent clients directly affect the test.
4. Measure More Than Once
Run at least three tests at different times of day and look at the average. A single measurement may reflect a momentary fluctuation.
If the Results Are Below Expectations
If your measurements are clearly below your package speed, open a fault ticket and attach screenshots of the results.
